Team Ministries at Mt. Washington UM Church

Communication Team

Our newest team encourages communication within and beyond our church.

Church Website: The site you're currently viewing is designed to share information with our members and those who are not yet members about what's happening in our church. Each month's newsletter is modified for viewing on the web, and the monthly calendar of church events is also provided. A history of the Mt. Washington UM Church is another link on our home page. Team ministries are described as well as our Child Enrichment Center (CEC). The Communication Team is responsible for the design and updating of this information. Information is provided by the teams for this website.

Church E-mail Group: A method that permits all of us to communicate with each other via e-mail is provided with a Google group. Only those who have been entered by the group manager are able to send and receive material on this service, and everything is sent to all group members. Google also maintains copies of these messages on their server, and all members who have joined Google (free) are able to see that information.

News from the Pews: Using the church group, a sub-team from our congregation provide an e-mail to all group participants on Sunday morning's church service that includes prayer concerns, general information presented at the service, and a summary of the sermon. This is especially important to our members and friends who are unable to attend the service.

Publicity: The Communication Team also provides church activity information to other media such as newspapers, television, and other Internet sites.

Education Team

There are a variety of exciting educational opportunities at Mt Washington United Methodist for all ages.

Our weekly adult Sunday school meets at 9:30AM . Classes are available for children ages 3 years through eighth grade after Children's Moments during the 10:45AM worship hour. Our adult classes cover a variety of subjects from traditional Bible studies, parenting issues, marriage workshops to comparative religion studies and everything in between. The nursery is available for children birth through age 2 years during adult Sunday school and during worship time. Plan to bring the entire family!

“Thursday Night Community” (TNC) is a mid-week gathering for food, fellowship and learning. A catered meal is available at the church at 5:30 PM followed by a Bible study or book discussion at 6:45 PM led by our pastor.

Outreach Team

This ministry team is involved in community projects such as SEM (Southeastern Ecumenical Ministry) which involves 29 other churches that supply families with food (collected at our church on the first Sunday of every month), medicines and emergency needs such as clothing and shelter.

Beech Acres is an agency that helps young parents in need and knowledge in caring for their babies and young children.  At Christmas time, we have a big project of supplying gifts to this agency for those families.

The Residence at Salem Woods (formerly Salem Parke), a local nursing home, enjoys the visits from our Sing-a-Long group as they share their voices with the people in the home.

We try to help supply materials needed by our local Mobile Vacation Church School that visits inner-city churches.

Globally we integrate social concerns, missions and race relations into the total ministry of our church through UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief).  We also supply health and school kits that go all over the world and have helped a Methodist Seminary in Samara, Russia.

United Methodist Men

Our United Methodist Men charter to make four commitments:

  1. A call for the spiritual growth of every man in our church.
  2. A call for a few men in our church to support and encourage the pastor through prayer and service.
  3. To call and equip all men to have at least one Godly friend with whom he is accountable as a disciple of Christ and to encourage men to build friendships across racial and cultural lines.
  4. To declare young people our new mission field, and to call and equip adults to lead young people into authentic Christian adulthood.

The proceeds of our fundraisers are donated to our church needs and to projects in and around our community.

Pray for us as we go through growing pains in our outreach "Menistry," looking for ways to serve and encourage others to grow in their faith.

Out motto:  "Here we are Lord, send us."

We meet once a month on Sunday mornings at 8:30 am for breakfast and a program.  We would very much like for you to become part of UMM.

United Methodist Women

The United Methodist Women would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to our church family.  We would like to extend an invitation for you to become a part of UMW and to participate in our activities.  The focus of UMW has always been the plight of women and children here at home and around the world.

Our general meeting is held on the third Thursday of the month at the church with the following time schedule:

10:00 am Prayer Fellowship -- a time to share our concerns and joys and a short devotion
10:15 am Business Meeting
11:15 am Program
12:00 noon Lunch -- usually served by one of the circles

We have three circles.  Two meet in the daytime and one in the evening:

  • Lydia Circle meets at 10:30 am, Leader Iva Cralley, (513) 232-7596
  • Phoebe Circle meets at 10:00 am, Leader Faye Huesteden, (513) 231-9052
  • Mary-Martha Circle meets at 7:30 pm, Leader Janet Dale, (513) 231-4950

You will find us to be a caring group of women who gather for fellowship, education and sharing together.

We look forward to having you as a part of our group, either in the monthly meeting or a circle or both.
